What is the difference between a 100A and 200A electrical panel?
The main difference is how much simultaneous electrical load your home can safely draw: a 200A service offers substantially more capacity than 100A for modern kitchens, air conditioning, heat pumps, EV charging, and additions. If your breakers are crowded, you add large loads, or the panel is obsolete, upgrading amperage is often the right long-term fix after a load calculation.
Symptoms of an undersized service
Frequent nuisance tripping when the oven and dryer run, inability to add a dedicated EV circuit, or a panel full of tandem breakers can indicate you are out of physical space or ampacity.
