Is a whole-house surge protector worth it?

For most Santa Clara County homes, a service-type surge protective device (SPD) at the main panel is a cost-effective layer that reduces damage from utility transients and many surge events; it works best as part of a layered strategy with plug-in protection for sensitive electronics. It does not replace proper grounding or insurance, but it can extend the life of appliances and reduce costly equipment failures.

How electricians install SPDs

We evaluate your panel type, available breaker slots, and manufacturer requirements. Installation should be code-compliant with correct overcurrent protection and labeling.
