Why do my lights flicker when large appliances turn on?
Flicker or dimming when a large motor starts often indicates voltage drop or loose connections; it can be benign in older homes but sometimes signals neutral problems, undersized service, or failing breakers. If flickering is new, widespread, or accompanied by burning smells or warm devices, turn off the affected circuit and call a licensed electrician for testing.
Diagnostics
We measure voltage under load, inspect the service neutral, and review breaker and bus condition. Some repairs are simple; others require panel replacement.
